Jimi Wanjigi Whisked Away as Police Teargas His Church Procession

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi was forced to scamper for safety after police hurled teargas canisters to disperse his procession. 

In a video shared by the businessman who expressed interest in the 2022 Presidential race, he was heading for a church service at the Ndabibi Ranch in Naivasha, Nakuru County. 

However, on his way, he was met by police officers who lobbed teargas forcing the congregants to flee for safety.

His security team then whisked away Wanjigi who other local leaders accompanied. Speaking after the incident, he called out President William Ruto's Administration accusing it of violating his freedom of worship.

"It is absolutely unacceptable for Ruto to colonize and displace the people of Ndabibi from their homes and then send his men to disrupt their prayer sessions with tear gas," Wanjigi stated.

"Kenyans have every right to worship in peace and should not be subjected to such unjust treatment," he added.

Earlier Wanjigi had published a statement announcing that he will be attending a thanksgiving service in the area and also hear the plight of the people over the contested Ndabibi land in Naivasha.

"The people of Ndabibi have long expressed their grievances against the oppression brought upon them by William Ruto, a man who had taken an oath to protect them. As a result, I will be joining them today in a thanksgiving prayer event, in an effort to show solidarity with their plight," Jimi stated. 

The Ndabibi land has been at the centre of controversy after Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara announced that President William Ruto had legally bought the land. 

Kihara further noted that there was no law that had barred the previous owner from selling the land to the Head of State. 

However, Ruto has not come out publicly to confirm or refute Kihara's statement.
