"We committed ourselves to dualing the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, we are well on course."

President William Ruto has announced plans by the government to dual the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Speaking on Wednesday, April 24 during the official launch of the Jumbo Africa Auto Auction SEZ in Naivasha, Nakuru County, the President said the dualling of the road would commence before the end of the year.

President Ruto noted that the government would then extend the dualing to Eldoret and up to the Malaba border.

"We committed ourselves to dualing the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, we are well on course and it is my plan that before the end of this year we begin the launch and construction of the dualling of the road between Nairobi and Nakuru all the way to Eldoret and continuously to Malaba," said Ruto.

At the same time, the Head of State expressed confidence that the SEZ will attract investors into the country.

President Ruto mentioned that the SEZ is strategically located to serve as a gateway for East and Central Africa.

"Kenya is the best place for your investment and Naivasha is the best location for your enterprise. Our journey to becoming our region’s and Africa's economic and industrial powerhouse is underway,” the president added.

The dualling of the Nairobi-Nakuru highways is expected to relieve traffic snarl-ups that have been witnessed on the road severally.

The highway has also been prone to road accidents that have claimed multiple lives of Kenyans.
