Ambassador Whitman is the fourth diplomat Raila has hosted at his Karen home in two weeks. 

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga on Friday, May 3 held a meeting with US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman at his residence in Karen, Nairobi.

In a statement, the former Prime Minister noted that they discussed the flood emergency in Kenya, assistance efforts, and his candidature for the African Union Commission chairperson position.

“We hosted the US ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman this morning. We discussed a range of issues including the flood emergency and assistance efforts in the country, US investments in Kenya, and my candidature for AUC chairmanship,” said Raila.

Whitman is the fourth foreign envoy, Raila has hosted at his Karen home in a span of two weeks. 

On April 26, the opposition chief hosted United Kingdom High Commissioner to Kenya Neil Wigan and discussed prospects for the consolidation of bilateral and multilateral ties between Kenya, Africa, and the UK.

Before meeting Wigan, Raila had hosted Norwegian Ambassador to Kenya Gunnar Andreas Holm and Australian High Commissioner to Kenya Jenny Da Rin at his Karen home.

In a statement, the ODM leader said the meeting with the two diplomats focused on bilateral, regional, and global issues.

“The former Prime Minister and the diplomats reaffirmed commitment to the historic ties and shared values that link their nations. They further discussed ways to further deepen bilateral and continental cooperation on local and global issues of mutual interest,” read the statement in part.

Raila and the two diplomats also reviewed existing political, security, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Kenya and other African countries, including the situation in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo and the need for lasting peace in the regions.
