“As a response to the national flooding crisis, the ODM Party has established a 9-member Disaster response team."

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has appointed a nine-member disaster response committee to help in the ongoing floods in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, May 9, ODM said the team has been tasked with coordinating response and relief efforts to the flood crisis.

The Raila Odinga-led party noted that the move to appoint the team was to stand together with the victims of flood disaster in the country.

“As a response to the national flooding crisis, the ODM Party has established a 9-member Disaster response team to coordinate a response and relief efforts to the ongoing crisis,” ODM stated.

Members of the committee include; Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, Busia Women Rep Catherine Omanyo, Seme MP Jakes Nyikal Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, and Senator Hamida Kibwana.

Others include; Nairobi MCAs, Peter Imwatok, Abbas Khalif, Nasra Nanda, and ODM youth director Benson Musungu.

The formation of the committee comes days after Raila faulted the Kenya Kwanza Government over the handling of the ongoing floods in the country.

In a statement, the former Prime Minister said the floods caught the government unprepared despite senior government officials talking big about climate change.

“Despite the fact that the Meteorological Department had accurately predicted the coming heavy rains and storms, there were no advance contingency plans. We have therefore been reduced to planning, searching, and rescuing at the same time,” said Raila.

The opposition chief announced that Azimio leaders were holding fundraising events to support flood victims.

“Within our own networks, we have reached out to mobilize support which we shall shortly be delivering to the affected. A number of our leaders are holding fundraisers and we will do what we can to support their efforts. We are also encouraging our networks to feel free to contribute to the national relief efforts, particularly through the Red Cross or other accountable organizations that are providing assistance,” Raila added.
