  • The DCIO and the watchman are reported to have had an argument at a Kayole lodging before the latter was killed.

Embakasi Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Samuel Mwongela has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a watchman at an establishment in Kayole area, Nairobi.

Mwongela is alleged to have murdered the guard after a quarrel ensued between them.

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has confirmed the arrest and ordered a thorough probe into the matter.

“He has been arrested for among others probe into murder and misuse of his weapon,” IG Mutyambai said.

According to witnesses, Mwongela arrived at the establishment at around 4am and demanded that it be opened for him to sleep, but the watchman declined, noting that it was late.

Irked by the watchman’s response, Mwongela allegedly pulled his gun and fired at the gate, only for the bullet to hit the watchman who was on the other side.

The watchman died on the spot. The incident caused commotion with a section of revelers scampering for safety following the gunshot.

In his defense, Mwongela claimed that he was searching for his car that had reportedly gone missing at the lodging.

Mwongela is set to be presented in court later today, where the police are expected to file a miscellaneous application seeking to detain accused for more days while investigating the shooting incident.
