Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has conceded defeat in the Juja and Rurii by-elections.

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju has addressed the party's losses in the Juja Cnstituency and Rurii ward by-elections.

The party was humbled in Juja after their candidate Susan Wakapee was floored by George Koimburi of MP Moses Kuria-led People's Empowerment Party (PEP).

Tuju , however, downplayed the loses, arguing that by-elections often pose an uphill challenge for ruling parties.

"We lost. We acknowledge that we lost. We shall learn from the mistake we may have committed and correct what we think may have not gone well. In any case, Jubilee like any other party, can win or lose in an election. The electorate sometimes use such mini polls as a protest vote and that dynamics in a by-election and a general election are different," Tuju explained.

Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe argued that voter turnout in the by-elections stood at 18 per cent, adding that he did not understand why leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto are ecstatic about the wins.

"Who says that every time you run an election you have to win it? You go to an election to win or to lose? If Ruto's allies believe that they are strong enough, let them move out of the Jubilee Party so that we conduct little general elections in their constituencies," Murathe said while appearing on KTN News on May 20.

He added that President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be distracted by the setbacks in the by-elections, and is focused on achieving his agenda.

"I take responsibility for not performing as well as we have performed in the past," Tuju conceded while appearing on Citizen TV on May 20.

The party has now turned its attentions to Kiambaa Constituency, with the aim of preventing another upset.
