The City building hosting popular food joint Sonford Fish and Chips on Friday night went up in flames.

According to reports, the fire at the building located along Moi Avenue in Nairobi started at around 10 PM.

The fire brigade arrived on time to contain the fire and no casualties have so far been reported.

Property of unknown value was consumed by the fire whose cause remains unknown, as it also spread to adjacent buildings.

The fire also affected 4 apartments in the Molo Line area of Gikomba with residents spending the night out in the cold.

The Government later announced plans to expedite the construction of modern markets in Gikomba and install CCTV cameras.

Addressing the Press on Friday 6th August 2021, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho stated that the Government would work closely with the leadership to create access roads for faster deployment of emergency services.
