Abdi told residents that he will serve as governor till August 2022, noting that he is keen to work with Ahmed Ali Muktar, who has since been sworn in as governor.

Impeached Wajir Governor Mohamud Abdi on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, stormed the Wajir County Government offices in a bid to "continue with his work".

According to reports, the former governor, arrived at the county offices equipped with a court order.

Abdi made trips around Wajir town in a vehicle with the number plate, GVN 008A, signaling his "resumption to work" before heading to his former office.

His convoy brought the whole town to a stand still as the impeached governor, addressed members of the public, assuring them that he would fulfill his manifesto.

He argued that the court papers granted him the permission to carry out his role as governor, despite being impeached by Senate earlier this year, and his deputy sworn in as governor.

Abdi told residents that he will serve as governor till August 2022, noting that he is keen to work with Ahmed Ali Muktar, who has since been sworn in as governor.

"Let us move forward and look into the problems that our people are facing especially in this time where we are facing serious drought and there is a shortage of food.

"As politicians let us come together and serve our people. The court has allowed me to work as the Wajir governor and my deputy will work as the deputy until this case is heard and determined," Abdi stated.

Muktar took to social media to castigate the action by the former governor, accusing him of vandalising the Wajir County offices.

"The former Governor of Wajir County, Mohamed Abdi Mohamud today broke into my office. The penal code on vandalism is very clear on such matters.

"As I officially lodge a complaint to the National Police Service on this act, vandalism on a government office is illegal and amounts to treasonous charges," Muktar stated.

He maintained that his office will not condone the actions instigated by former governor Abdi.

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi weighed in on the incident, terming it a circus that had risen to the national headlines.

This a circus and national shame. Former Wajir Governor got himself a fake and forged court orders and then gets himself a fake number plate and storms County offices this morning. So the impeachment by the Senate is wished away?" he posted.
