Police in Busia have launched a manhunt for one Wilson Simiyu Situma who escaped from the Busia Police Station.

The 29-year-old was arrested and detained in relation to the murder of a local businessman.

The incident occurred when Police Constable, Robert Ruto allowed Simiyu to fetch water from a tap located 10 metres from the holding cells for cleaning the cells.

While Constable Ruto was talking to other prisoners, the suspect ran and scaled a perimeter wall of the adjacent Busia Law Courts and disappeared.

He is believed to have been seriously injured in the process, as police found a piece of flesh stuck to a metal spike on the perimeter wall.

Constable Ruto went after Simiyu, firing four times but missed the target. Reports indicate that the suspect may have boarded a motorcycle.

The suspect had been recently transferred to the Busia Police Station from Kitale GK Prison, where he had been imprisoned for various crimes including robbery with violence.

He was to appear before Busia High court on Monday, September 6, 2021, for a plea over the murder of Alfred Obayo, who owned Texas hotel in Busia town.

Police have since appealed to members of the public to report any suspicious individuals in the area, or anyone in the know of Simiyu's whereabouts.
