A huge fire gutted down a dormitory at Kakamega High School on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

A local who spoke to Nairobileo.co.ke disclosed that the fire, whose cause remains unknown, started at 6:00 am.

Security has been intensified at the institution as the Kakamega County Fire-fighters and locals braved to put out the fire with success.

Former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, while confirming the incident via Twitter, condemned the culprits for torching the iconic dormitory.

"The so-called students at Kakamega High School, have set our iconic Alma Marta on fire. As a current parent at this school, I am, to say the least ashamed," Khalwale tweeted.

Kenya has witnessed a spike in cases of unrest in schools, with more than 31 learning institutions being burnt down this term alone.

In trying to curb the wave of unrest and arson cases, the Government bowed to pressure and directed all primary and secondary schools to go for half term break on November 19, 2021.

Education Cabinet Secretary, George Magoha also announced this week that parents would cater for property destroyed by students in schools.
