The feature dubbed default timer will enable users to choose whether they will want their chats messages to disappear after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.

Whatsapp users will no longer have to delete their chats messages, Meta Technology Company CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced.

In a statement on Facebook on December 6, Zuckerberg revealed that they have installed an additional feature on WhatsApp that will enable users to get rid of their chats messages automatically at their time of choice.

The feature dubbed default timer will enable users to choose whether they will want their chats messages to disappear after 24 hours, 7 days or 90 days.

"We're rolling out a new disappearing messages option on WhatsApp today so you'll be able to make all new chats disappear by default after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. Not all messages need to stick around forever," Zuckerberg said.

The feature has attracted mixed reactions among users with some noting that it has come in handy for those cheating in their relationships.

"On behalf of unfaithful spouses, I’d like to thank you for this innovation. Thank you!" Patrick Fynn said.

Others also asked the CEO to introduce another feature such as editing captions to enable users to correct their small errors during interactions with the app.

"While this is a good feature and I applaud it for the sake of privacy, it just doesn't make sense that we can't edit our captions on Whatsapp status.

"If you have a typo on a WhatsApp status, you just have to delete and repost. This can't be happening in 2021... It's retrogressive! Mark Fix it!! You can!" Aura Cool said.

Meta, a parent organization for Facebook, Instagram and many other subsidiaries, has been undertaking a lot of transformation on Whatsapp to boost user experience.

However, many users are still calling for an improvement including in data privacy to make their experience better.
