The Communication Authority of Kenya(CA) has issued a notice informing 60 radio stations in the country that they risk having their licences cancelled and FM frequencies revoked over non-compliance of legal procedures.
In a notice by CA Director-General Ezra Chiloba, the affected radio stations include Capital FM, operating under Capital Media Group, and NRG Radio which is operating under African Northern Broadcasting Services Limited.
According to Chiloba, the radio stations have not complied with the requisite requirements.
"The Authority has commenced regulatory actions against the following listed broadcasters and applicants of broadcasting service provisioning licences for failure to comply with the relevant requirements as provided for in the Act," he said in the notice.

Other stations include community and religious organization radios and FM stations being run by universities.
University radio stations that have lost their licenses include MU FM(Moi University), MMU FM(Multimedia Media University), Egerton FM (Egerton University), MMUST FM (Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, KU FM (Kenyatta University), KIMC FM (Kenya Institute of Mass Communications).
Chiloba further warned those operating TV and radio stations without following set legal procedures saying they will face the full wrath of the law.
"In accordance with Section 46C of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998, it is illegal to provide any form of broadcasting service in Kenya without a license issued by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
"Contravention of this requirement attracts a fine not exceeding KShs. 1,000,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both," he added.
The stations have been give 30 days to comply.
