Four people have died following a tragic road accident along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

This is after a 14-seater matatu they were travelling in rammed into a trailer at Kerita area.

Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Ayub Gitonga has confirmed the tragedy.

According to the commander, witnesses say the matatu was being driven and overtaking recklessly before it rammed into the trailer.

Bodies of the deceased have been moved to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.

Those who sustained injuries were also taken to the same facility for treatment.

The tragedy comes even as 3 more other people were reported dead and 36 others injured at two separate accidents in the Nyanza region.

One accident involved a Nissan Shuttle that collided with a car.

The driver of the Nissan died on the spot while two others who were in the car succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment in the hospital.

7 passengers, onboard the Nissan shuttle, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Another accident involved a bus heading to Busia. The Acacia bus collided with a lorry leaving 16 people injured including 9-months-old twins.

The 16 were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu.
