Two men using crashed padlock powdered in another Gold scam have been arrested in Uthiru.

The two, Rogers Kipkogei and Collins Chavera who posed as agents of a Congo based gold baron were arrested and arraigned in court on Friday.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two suspects had obtained Ksh1 million from a gold investor, after showing him dust from crushed padlocks.

“The get-rich-quick schemes by a section of Kenyans appears to have gone a notch higher, after two suspects were arrested with crushed padlocks disguised as gold. Rogers Kipkogei and Collins Chavera, posing as agents of a Congo based gold baron, obtained over Sh1 million from a gold investor, after showing him dust from crushed padlocks,” said DCI.

Detectives said the suspects had tricked the victim to deposit money to different Mpesa accounts, given to him by the suspects.

DCI said the suspects have been using the ID numbers from the identity cards to register the sim cards which they use to con unsuspecting Kenyans.

“Detectives believe the suspects use the personal information from the identification documents, to register the SIM cards used to steal money from Kenyans through mobile money transactions,” said DCI.

“The duo were arraigned in court today and custodial orders granted to enable detectives complete investigations into the modus operandi syndicate.”
