One student has been reported dead after a pit latrine at Nyabondo Boys High School in Nyakach, Kisumu County collapsed on Monday, February 7, 2022.
According to a report by the Nation, two more students were injured in the accident.
The three students were out on evening break and went to relieve themselves when the latrine caved in on them.
Following the tragic incident, county rescue officers were dispatched to the scene and attempted to save the boy who unfortunately succumbed.
Two were rescued but the Form One student who was trapped in the rubble died.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o asked police officers to expedite investigations into the matter and establish the cause of the accident.
"It is devastating to lose such a young ebullient student who had a promising future. I would like to see a speedy probe into this matter," Governor Nyong’o stated.
The governor also wished quick recovery to those injured in the tragedy.
