A 35-year-old man was mauled to death by a pack of hyenas at Athi Village in Juja, Kiambu County on the morning of Friday, February 25, 2022.

Witnesses say that they heard the man since identified as Robert Mwangi screaming at around 1 am in the morning but were unable to save him from the pack.

Confirming the incident, area chief Sarah Wanjiku revealed that Mwangi's body has since been moved to General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.

The incident becomes a second similar occurrence reported in the area over the last two months.

In late December, a pack of around 20 hyenas killed two people near Thika. In the first incident, they mauled a man to death as he was heading home from the quarry with another man who narrowly escaped death in Kamuthi area.

The day after, the remains of yet another man were discovered at a farm in Kandara Investment Scheme along with hyena footprints.

Police warned residents of Juja, Witeithie and Thika of a roaming pack of hyenas.
