Chebukati said that the commission shall give its comments after looking at the remarks by Ruto.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has intimated that the electoral body shall investigate remarks by Deputy President William Ruto on a plan to manipulate the August 9 poll results.

In a press briefing, Chebukati said that the commission shall give its comments after looking at the remarks by Ruto.

“About the remarks by the Deputy President, have not read those remarks. I think when the commission looks at them then we shall be in a position to give our comments and way forward,” Chebukati said.

Chebukati was speaking after IEBC signed an agreement with the Kenya Editor's Guild and the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ) to combat the growing cases of misinformation and disinformation.

“As a commission, we’re fully prepared for elections and the purpose of signing this Mou is to ensure transparency, especially in the area of the results announcement,”

“We are sure as a commission that the results as announced at polling stations are final and will be made available to you [media], available to agents of all the candidates and availed to anybody who has a phone,” the IEBC chairman added.

Chebukati assured Kenyans that the chances of rigging the August 9 General Election are almost nil. He maintained that every Kenyan vote shall count.

The Deputy President had earlier claimed that there was a plot by government agencies to manipulate the outcome of the election.
