The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams were on Monday disrupted in two schools at Kapkusum in Muchongoi, Baringo County.

This is after armed bandits launched an attack in the area.  Police have said the security situation has been restored.

The KCPE exams kicked off countrywide on Monday.

Concerns about the safety of KCPE/KCSE candidates had been raised due to the insecurity in Baringo County.

The government had assured learners from the region of their security as the examinations kicked off.

Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Mohammed Maalim on Monday morning said all the schools in the region had begun the examination smoothly.

“Our biggest fear was the Baringo area following last Friday’s attacks but since then we have traced all the 40 candidates from the area who had fled with their families for safety and I have been informed that they are all sitting their exams this morning,” Maalim said.

Maalim noted that security had been beefed up across the Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot counties.

“Our keen focus is now on Baringo and after the recent unrest, we have deployed more officers from the GSU and RDU to the region and we have also equipped them with modern tools,” he stated.
