UDA on Thursday issued a provisional nomination certificate to Simon Mbugua for the Starehe Parliamentary race.

Starehe MP Charles Njagua commonly known as Jaguar has broken his silence after being denied the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket for Starehe.

UDA on Thursday, April 21 issued a provisional nomination certificate to Simon Mbugua to fly the party’s flag in the Starehe Parliamentary race.

Reacting to the decision by UDA, Jagua said that the people of Starehe were denied their democratic right to choose a leader of their choice on the ballot.

"The people of Starehe were denied their democratic right to go to the ballot again for the nominations and choose their leader.

"The party decided to carry out opinion polls to decide whom to award the nomination certificate and it has been done," he stated.

The Starehe MP noted that he would consult the people of Starehe and announced the way forward in the coming days.

"Could this be an outcome of certificates that started making rounds before nominations? Is democracy at stake here?

"I will be holding discussions with the people of Starehe and decide on the way forward. The voice of the people matters," Jagua added.

The Deputy President William Ruto-led party had last week said it would conduct a repeat nomination exercise in the constituency due to incidences of violence.

However, UDA made a u-turn, called of the nomination and opted for opinion polls conducted by the party.
