Matiang'i said the government will ensure that all illegal firearms that are possessed by civilians are surrendered by police.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has imposed curfew on Marsbait county.

The curfew will begin at 6pm and end at 6 am.

Speaking in a press conference on Monday, the CS said the curfew will allow security forces to deal with rising cases of insecurity in the area.

"With effect from 6 pm tonight, we have placed the whole of Marsabit county under curfew for 30 days. The curfew will be between 6 pm and 6 am," he said.

During the presser, the CS was flanked by Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, Interior PS Karanja Kibicho and other government officials.

Matiang'i said the government will ensure that all illegal firearms that are possessed by civilians are surrendered by police.

"We carry out this operation until sanity prevails in Marsabit and until we stop the senseless loss of lives."

Also affected is Komu sub-location in Isiolo county.

He added that the operation will extend to sololo near the Kenya-Ethiopia border. More to follow.

The curfew comes at a time when the county is facing increased cases of insecurity that have led to the loss of lives and livestock.
