Ruto is expected to name his running mate at 10 am from his Karen office

Deputy President William Ruto is today, expected to unveil his running mate to the public.

According to reports, the United Democratic Alliance Party leader is expected to name his running mate today on Saturday, May 14, at his Karen office from 10 am.

While revealing Ruto's plans, Dennis Itumbi said the second in command is expected to reveal his running mate today, bringing to an end speculations on who will be picked by the UDA Party presidential candidate.

"DP William Ruto is expected to name and unveil his running mate, tomorrow, Saturday, 14th May 2022. It is so declassified!" read Itumbi's Facebook post on Friday evening.

These reports immediately elicited mixed reactions from Kenyans, with one of Ruto's close allies and Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei coming out to speculate and indirectly hint at who his boss will likely pick.

In an indirect Facebook post, Cherargei suggestively placed Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki at the center of the debate, leaving Kenyans on whether the DP had settled on the soft-spoken legislator as his second in command.

"Prof. Kithure kindiki. Senator Tharaka Nithi county. #makiwole #mtetezi Blessed night" read Cherargei's post.

However, Cherargei's post just remains speculative as Kenyans await to see the aspirant DP will finally settle on ahead of the August general polls.

On his part, another of Ruto's close allies and Chinga Ward MCA Kiruga Thuku urged his UDA counterparts to remain united under their patron William Ruto and the person he will be going to name as his deputy.

According to the legislator, UDA has a number of qualified aspirants but only one will be picked, adding that they should unite and give their best to ensure UDA wins the presidency.

"So our Presidential candidate in UDA Party and Kenya Kwanza Coalition H.E William Samoei Ruto will be naming his running mate. We have quite a number of very qualified leaders in UDA as well as in Kenya Kwanza...This is to make it very clear that whomever our Presidential candidate picks as his running mate, all of us in the UDA Party and in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition will rally behind him and also behind our Presidential candidate!!! That is the team we will give our all to see clinching the Presidency!!!" said Kiruga Thuku

This comes just two days before the IEBC's May 16, official deadline for all presidential candidates to present the names of their running mates. According to reports, Raila, who has been camping in the coastal region is expected to name his running mate on Sunday.

Among the candidates rumoured to be on Ruto's list include Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, and Kandara MP Alice Wahome among others.
