The presidential candidate was required to appear before the commission at the Bomas of Kenya.

The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has summoned Umoja Summit Party Presidential candidate Walter Mong'are.

In a statement by the commission on Monday, June 6, Mr. Mong’are was required to be at the Bomas of Kenya for a meeting with IEBC at 2 p.m.

"The Commission (IEBC) has summoned Umoja Summit Party Presidential candidate Walter Mong'are to a meeting at the Bomas of Kenya at 2pm," IEBC stated.

The comedian-turned politician was the first to be cleared by the IEBC on Monday, May 30 to run for the presidency in the August polls.

Mr. Mong’are summon comes after IEBC rejected Safina Party Presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi’s application to run for the top seat.

According to the IEBC, Wanjigi did not have a university degree which is one of the requirements for one to run for president in the country.

IEBC also stated that the Safina Party Presidential candidate's application did not meet the required minimum number of supporters as it fell short by one county.

However, Wanjigi protested the move by the IEBC, saying that there seemed to be a decision that some aspirants would not make it to the ballot.

“I want to inform the commission that we know what is going on. And unfortunately this time you would not get away with it. There seems to be a very clear decision that there are people who must not be in the ballot. And I am one of them,” Wanjigi stated.

Among presidential candidates cleared so far include Mong’are, Kenya Kwanza leader William Ruto, Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Roots Party leader Prof. George Wajackoyah and David Mwaure Waihiga of Agano Party.
