Deputy President William Ruto has opened up on his plans if he is not elected the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya.

Speaking during an interview on NTV Sunday, June 12, Ruto mentioned that he was grateful he had the opportunity to serve Kenyans as Deputy President.

Ruto, who is running for President on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, said that if he doesn't win, he will support the candidate who will have been elected and become part of the Kenyan society.

"If I will not win in August, I now have grandchildren and I will be satisfied, very many Kenyans have not gotten to be Deputy President. I really thank God I have gotten very far from where I came from.

"Being Deputy President of Kenya against all odds is something that I consider a huge achievement. I will be a very satisfied Kenyan that I did my best. I served my country and it's for Kenyans to decide what happens and if they so decide I will support whoever will have been elected and will be part and parcel of the Kenyan society," Ruto stated.

The DP also explained why he settled on Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate for the August polls.

"Rigathi Gachagua is a peoples person, he speaks about the ordinary people, he believes in bottom-up the way I do and that's why I chose him to work with me," he said.
