The boda boda rider dropped a sack that contained guns and bullets. 

Police in Pokot South Sub-County have retrieved a sack carrying guns and bullets that was dropped by a speeding boda boda rider. 

In a statement on Saturday, the National Police Service (NPS) stated that officers from Tapach Police Station retrieved the arms as they tried to stop two motorcycles while on patrol.

The police stated that one motorcycle stopped but the other one sped off, dropping a sack which was later found to be containing four AK-47 rifles and 60 bullets were retrieved.

“The officers stopped the first motorcycle which had two passengers, however, the rider sped off in the process dropping a sack. The second rider sped off towards Kapsangar area. The encounter led to one officer sustaining minor injuries.


“Upon checking on what was contained in the sack, four AK-47 assault rifles were found. Each rifle had a magazine loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition,” the police stated.

The recovered guns and bullets were taken to Kabichbich Police Station as the police continued their pursuit of the suspects.

Meanwhile, the police continue with the disarmament operation in Pokot and neighboring regions in a bid to restore peace in the region that has been experiencing banditry attacks.

“The recoveries are part of the ongoing disarmament exercise in the region being conducted by the Multi-agency teams in the volatile areas of Elgeiyo Marakwet and Pokot Counties. Additionally, the security teams are currently in constant vigilance to ensure that peace and security is maintained,” NPS stated.
