Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General Maj. Gen. Mohamed Badi has pledged to release all confiscated boda bodas before the August General Election.

Speaking on Monday at the Nyayo National Stadium indoor arena when meeting a section of boda boda riders, Mbadi said that he will engage the Inspector General of Police to facilitate the release.

Mbadi further said that boda boda operators were being victimized by rogue officers in the city but maintained that he had begun taking action.

“It is true that boda boda operators are being mistreated by enforcement officers. But I have started dealing with that enforcement. The rogue officers will go home.

“On the issue of boda bodas that have been confiscated, I will talk to the IG of police to see whether they can be released before the elections,” Mbadi stated.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously ordered a national crackdown on boda boda operators where hundreds of motorcycles were impounded in Nairobi.

The crackdown came after a female motorist was assaulted by a section of boda boda riders at Forest Road, an incident that attracted a backlash.

"We want to support the boda boda business but it is not a license for boda boda riders to strip and remove dignity from our women. We will re-register all boda bodas,” President Kenyatta stated.
