IEBC now says that goons with crude weapons tried to attack their staff on Monday night.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says that goons with crude weapons tried to attack their staff on Monday night.

In a statement via social media platforms on Monday, August 22, IEBC claimed that the goon tried to attack their staff who were preparing responses to Presidential election petitions.

However, according to the electoral body, the goons were repulsed by security personnel who responded swiftly.

"Today, Monday, 22nd August 2022 at around 8:30 pm an organised group of goons wielding crude weapons attempted to attack IEBC personnel preparing responses to Presidential election petitions at a premise within Nairobi. However, they were repulsed by Security.

"The Commission condemns this act of hooliganism and intimidation and calls upon the Inspector of Police (IG) to bring to an end this blatant abuse of the Rule of Law," part of the statement read.

The Supreme court on Monday received eight petitions challenging William Ruto's win.

Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his deputy Martha Karua filed a petition at the supreme court, challenging the declaration of President-elect William Ruto as the winner in the August 9 polls.

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah also rejected the results of the Presidential election arguing that no candidate achieved the 50% plus one threshold stipulated in the constitution.
