The students descended on the teacher with blows and kicks.

A fistfight between students at Poroko Secondary School in Trans Mara County on Sunday resulted in two students being admitted to a hospital in Kilgoris.

According to a statement by the DCI on Monday, October 10, the melee ensued when five schools converged at the school for a live set books performance.

DCI said that a teacher who was on duty noticed something amiss as the performance was going on, and when he decided to engage, the students descended on him with blows and kicks.

"Trouble began when the teacher on duty Fred Machokaa, spotted some boys from Kilgoris boys school in a compromising situation with one of his female students. Upon urging them to disperse, the seemingly agitated boys descended on him with blows and kicks, prompting students from Poroko to come to the aid of their teacher," DCI said.

The event at the school then turned chaotic as students started throwing, leaving three students seriously injured and property of unknown value destroyed.

It was then that the police were to contain the riotous students who destroyed the school bus belonging to Poroko Secondary School and window panes in one of the dormitories.

"Two students who suffered head, neck and chest injuries were admitted at a private hospital in Nyangusi in fair condition while a third was treated at Kilgoris sub-county hospital where he was treated and discharged in fair condition," DCI stated.

DCI said that investigations into the incident have begun urging students to be mindful of the sacrifices that their parents are making to ensure they get education.
