Safaricom has partnered with Britam to introduce an affordable data plan dubbed Data Plus, which offers a daily personal accident cover in addition to data and free Google Maps for as little as KES 25 daily.

In a press statement to newsrooms on Monday, September 18, the personal accident covers medical expenses, permanent disability, and funeral expenses arising from an accident. 

The introduction of Data Plus will see Safaricom customers enjoy a selection of four daily data bundles that are valid for 24 hours between Sh25 and Sh150.

For only Sh25 daily, a customer will enjoy a 100MB bundle with a daily insurance benefit of Sh15,000 for medical expenses, Ksh 50,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Sh 50,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death. 

For Sh55 daily, the plan includes a 300MB bundle paired with a daily insurance benefit of Sh 15,000 for medical expenses, Sh50,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Sh50,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

For Sh 110 daily, customers can access the 1GB data bundle, complemented by a daily insurance benefit of Sh30,000 for medical expenses, Sh 100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Sh100,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

Customers with more data demands can access the 1.8GB data bundle which is available for Sh150 daily, inclusive of an insurance benefit of Sh 30,000 for medical expenses, Sh 100,000 for accidental permanent total disability, and Sh 100,000 for funeral expenses in case of accidental death.

Data Plus will be available for all prepay, individual hybrid, and individual post-pay customers.

Customers can access the bundles and the personal accident cover via the Safaricom App or USSD *544# under option 9 – Data Plus, select their preferred bundle, and pay via Airtime or M-PESA.

They will then receive a notification from Britam confirming the cover.

The claims process for the insurance cover is hassle free. Customers can initiate a claim via the USSD *544# under option 9 – Data Plus and select option 5 – make a claim. Alternatively, customers can submit claims through Britam’s WhatsApp chatbot on 0793304927.

All valid claims will be processed within 5 working days upon receipt of all necessary documentation, with benefits disbursed to the mobile number linked to the bundle. The Accidental Death benefit will be paid to the designated beneficiary.
