Netflix has cancelled the second season of Queen Son starring South Africa’s Pearl Thusi as agent Sono. 

The show was cancelled due to the economic effects resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. Initially, the creators had been given the green light to begin working on the second season. 

The show featured one of Sauti Sol’s song from the Midnight Train album as a soundtrack. 

The creators used ‘Disco Matanga’ single featuring South Africa’s Sho Madjozi as the soundtrack. 

The band made history as Netflix premiered its first African original series.

The news about the cancellation was shared by the creator and director Kagiso Lediga who expressed his gratitude towards the cast. 

 “Another casualty of 2020. Thank you to all the fans and awesome team behind Queen Sono for the magic,” posted Lediga.

A representative from Netflix announced while applauding the team behind the show and reiterating that the international streamer would continue to work with creatives from Africa in a bid to bring more original African stories to life.
