A woman from Nyeri county has been arrested following the mysterious death of her two children.

The woman, aged 28 years old, is accused of killing the children whose bodies were found on their farm.

Teresa Nyambura was arrested after failing to account for the whereabouts of the children aged seven and 10, who police say had signs of strangulation.

Abigael Njoki, 10, and 7-year-old Joseph Kariuki were discovered by residents of Karimururi village in Mukurweini.

They were found about 300 meters from their home.

“On scrutiny of the bodies of the two children, it was established that there was signs of strangulation on the side of the girl and the boy had some vomit near where he was found,” said Mukurweini Sub-County commander Jesse Mwakiria.

Detectives who launched a probe into the incident arrested Nyambura, who failed to give accounts of the last moments of her children.

Nyambura’s father maintained that her daughter was disturbed after she lost her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was unable to raise school fees for her children.

The court has allowed the police to hold the woman for 21 days to conclude investigations.
