The Nairobi County Assembly has approved the nomination of Anne Mwenda as Deputy Governor.

The county assembly approved her nomination after she was vetted earlier today.

The approval means that she will now become Nairobi's first female deputy governor.

Her vetting came after the High Court gave the County Assembly a green light to vet Ms Mwenda.

One she is sworn in, she will also take over as Nairobi Governor since the position is currently being held by Benson Mutura in an acting capacity.

The decision also means that there will be no by-election in Nairobi as earlier indicated by IEBC.

This is a major blow to candidates who had expressed interest in replacing Mike Sonko who was impeached a few weeks ago.

Some of the candidates who had expressed interest include; Dennis Waweru, Miguna Miguna, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru among others.
