Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has mocked proponents of the BBI Bill, noting that they shouldn’t celebrate its victory as they were competing against themselves.

In a tweet on Tuesday afternoon, Murkomen noted that there is nothing to celebrate as counties were expected to pass the Bill.

“Why are BBI promoters excited and overjoyed? When you are running on your own, how are you celebrating that you won?” he posted.

Earlier today, several county assemblies passed the BBI Bill surpassing the 24 required for the Bill to move to Parliament and the Senate.

Some of the counties that passed the BBI Bill today include; Murang’a, Nyandarua, Nyamira, Kirinyaga, Nakura, Mombasa, Makueni, Machakos and Narok among others.

Speaking after Kirinyaga County MCAs passed the Bill, Governor Anne Waiguru hailed counties from the Mt Kenya region for speaking in one voice contrary to claims that the region was divided.

She noted that according to the voting patterns, it is clear that Mt Kenya will always support one of their own.

“People have seen Mt Kenya voting as one block, Kirinyiga has voted unanimously, other counties have voted unanimously. I said it before, I’ll say it again, you can rent a Kikuyu, but you cannot buy a Kikuyu, bottom line, they will still vote for their own people, they know what is good for the region and will stand with the region,” she said.
