Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka instructed that the tabling of the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 be postponed.

The Bill was slotted in the order paper for introduction in the House for first reading on Thursday afternoon.

Speaker Lusaka had on Wednesday directed that that the Bill be introduced in the form in which the IEBC sent them to the County Assemblies.

“After consultation with our the Legal Affairs Committee and that of the National Assembly. I wish to differ Order No. 8. I will give more information at a later date,” Speaker Lusaka said.

The bill, sponsored by Senate Majority leader Samuel Poghisio will be tabled for consideration ahead of a looming referendum.

Last week, Speaker Justin Muturi underscored the urgency of the debate, saying it would be unnecessary for the bill to be published since bills originating in the Senate are not subjected to publication to conform with the 14 day maturity period before Bill’s first reading.
