Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is one of the leaders expected to run for Presidency in the 2022 General Election.
While the Kanu Party leader is yet to officially announce his bid, or who he’ll back if he doesn’t vie for the presidency, Senator Moi and his party have put in place several strategies to popularize and market their ideologies ahead of 2022.
Top on the list is working with other like-minded leaders to form a coalition that will prove hard to beat. Already, Kanu has joined the One Kenya Alliance that also has Wiper, ANC and Ford Kenya parties. The leaders of the above mentioned parties have been holding regular meetings discussing matters of national interest.
Secondly, Senator Moi and Kanu are banking on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional Amendment push to sell their ideologies to Kenyans. Gideon Moi is among leaders who’ve traversed most parts of the country popularising BBI. Through BBI sensitization meetings, the Kanu party hopes to reach more Kenyans and market itself as a key pillar of the handshake.
Consolidating Support Base
Reports indicate that the Senator is also working on consolidating the Kanu support base in the country. The party’s leadership has reportedly been holding strategy meetings with opinion leaders in perceived Kanu strongholds on how to make the party stronger.
Kanu has reportedly put up a strong team of consultants and researchers to help it plan for 2022. The team is reportedly working from a Nairobi office. Details of the team are yet to be made public.
“It’s work in progress. The party has rolled its sleeves. It’s no longer about the future but now. The elections are fast approaching and we are serious and will turn the tables in the nick of time,” a source privy to the happenings in Kanu said.
Kanu Youth League
The youth are the largest voting bloc in the country and Kanu is aware of the same. In a bid to ensure they don’t miss out on the youth, Kanu is revitalizing its youth league hoping it will be appealing and attractive to the over 10 million youth registers as voters by IEBC.
The Kanu youth league has been traversing the country and recruiting more youth to the party. “The Jukwaa has already toured 30 counties. We are bringing more youth on board. We want to empower them. It's a new way of making Kanu fresh and a party of choice,” Kanu Youth Coordinator Cornelius Rono told a local daily.
Kanu hopes that by recruiting more youth on board they’ll have an edge over their competitors in 2022.
