  • Bashir was buried on Monday at Lang'ata cemetery. A postmortem on his body revealed that he was tortured and strangled to death.

New details have emerged on slain Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohammed indicating that he had links to senior Somali government officials and transacted millions of money.

Speaking to a local daily, government officials noted that Bashir was on Kenya’s intelligence radar over his transactions with Somali officials, which at times was transacted through foreign accounts.

“In as much as I can't connect the death to the money issue, there was a feeling he was channeling money to Mogadishu, which is technically at war with Kenya. It was a concern,” a senior government official divulged.

Over the recent past, Kenya and Somali have not been on the best diplomatic terms, therefore some government officials felt like Bashir was working with the enemy.

It is, however, not clear if his links to Somali may have played a role in his murder.

Bashir went missing over a week ago. His body was found dumped in Kirinyaga County and later taken to Kerugoya Level V hospital.

A post-mortem conducted on the body revealed that Bashir was tortured and strangled to death.

Pathologists led by Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor established that Bashir’s body had deep cuts, bruises, burn marks and the toenails had been pulled out.

He was buried at the Lang’ata cemetery on Monday in accordance to Islam customs.

Meanwhile, the family has requested for a thorough investigation to the murder, and those found guilty dealt with in accordance to the law.
