President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga will not be using the newly renovated train to Kisumu for the Madaraka Day celebrations.

Reports by the Standard indicated that the travel had been cancelled but the project will be launched by President Kenyatta at a later date.

According to reports, the President's trip was cancelled due to a lack of spare parts needed for the train Uhuru and Raila were to use to Kisumu on Sunday, May 30

President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga were expected to take their maiden train trip to Kisumu for the official launch of the renovated Metre Gauge Railway (MGR).

The duo was also expected to open the new railway terminus next to Kisumu Cotton Mills (Kicomi) which was one of the projects the head of state was to unveil in his five-day tour of the Lakeside city.

Kisumu Couty is hosting this year's Madaraka Day Celebrations after the National Celebrations Committee spearheading this year’s celebrations reported its satisfaction with the works at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports Complex.

Only 3,000 people will be allowed into the stadium during the celebrations but another 20,000 people will be placed in different venues within the city to follow the proceedings on big screens.
