Denmark has donated 358,700 doses of Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine to Kenya, which are to be used before July 31.

The Government of Denmark has today, June 5, 2021, donated 358,700 doses of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine to Kenya.

It further directed that the jabs be administered to members of the public before July 31.

"International solidarity is key in a pandemic and we're really proud that Denmark can support our good and long-term partner Kenya in their fight against Covid-19. 358.700 AstraZeneca doses from Denmark will arrive in Kenya soon and will immediately enter the national vaccination programme," a message from the Danish consulate in Kenya read in part.

The move comes after the Ministry of Health announced vaccine shortages within the country.

The doses will aid the government make a stride towards its vaccination target, despite stiff competition from western nations and CDC facilities for the jabs currently in the market.

Yesterday, MoH announced that so far a total of 974,000 persons have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus countrywide. Of these 295,202 are aged 58 years and above, Others 277,207, Health Workers, 166,043, Teachers 152,962, while Security Officers 82,586.

The Ministry further revealed that a total of 2,541 have received their second dose. Of these 2,150 are Health workers, Others 216, Security Officers 95, Teachers 45, those aged 58 years and above 35.
