A man has been sentences to a 3-year jail term or pay a fine of Ksh20,000 after he allowed his 7-year-old son to drive his car.

Ayub Kinyanjui Muigai was charged with allowing a minor/person not a holder of a valid driving licence to operate a vehicle, a case in which he pleaded guilty.

He was nabbed by officers from the Kirwara Police Station in Murang’a County working in conjunction with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, June 14, 2021, after a video of the boy driving the Toyota Prado went viral.

In the circulated video, a man walks up to the car and asks the boy if he is the driver, which he says yes.

The man dares the boy to prove it, after which the boy proceeds to drive the car for a couple of metres at Delview Park area in Thika.

After it went viral, the video elicited mixed reactions among members of the public.

A section called upon relevant authorities to take action against the father for endangering the life of the young boy.
