I'm confident I will defeat Raila Odinga - Jimmy Wanjigi told the press.

Business mogul and political strategist Jimmy Wanjigi has dared former prime minister Raila Odinga to challenge him in the ODM presidential primaries.

Mr. Wanjigi exuded confidence that he would defeat Mr. Odinga in the presidential primaries on grounds that ODM is a national party.

"It is Hon. Raila Odinga's democratic right as every Kenyan to stand for the ticket of ODM to be a presidential candidate. I welcome the challenge. As of now, he has not declared but I welcome the challenge.

"I'm confident I will defeat him because the delegates are a representation of Kenya. ODM is a national party, it does not belong to anybody, it belongs to the people of Kenya. I'm confident I will defeat him," Mr. Wanjigi told the press.

Mr. Odinga has been cagey about running for the top seat in the 2022 General Election, although he has given several hints he will be at the ballot box.

On 24th January 2021, the ODM party asked its members to send applications to NEB if they wanted to be the party’s presidential candidate for next year's elections.

In the advert, elections board chair Catherine Mumma said interested candidates must pay Sh1m non-refundable fee to the ODM account.

Following the advert, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna announced that only  Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya had applied for the presidential ticket.
