Police officers proceeded to search the vehicle and recovered two AK-47 rifles, phones and ammunition.

Police officers in Mombasa have today, Monday, August 23, 2021, arrested suspected terrorists at the Likoni ferry crossing.

In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, heavily-armed police officers narrowed in on the suspects who were driving a white probox, and was lining up to cross the Likoni channel via ferry.

The officers, surrounded the car and ordered the two men to step out of the car and lie on the ground.

They proceeded to search the vehicle and recovered two AK-47 rifles, phones and ammunition.

Also recovered from the vehicle were wires, and duct tapes.

They were handcuffed and taken into a police vehicle on standby. The two will be taken into holding for further interrogation. 

The incident happens at the back of security concerns that have gripped Kenya's Coast region.

Police have in the recent past been on high alert for suspicious activity orchestrated by militia groups that have infiltrated the country.

On August 12, the United States of America issued a travel advisory for its citizens warning them against visiting the Coast and North Eastern regions due to terrorism activities.
