Police have launched a manhunt for a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier after he stabbed his 91-year-old mother to death in Homa Bay County.

The incident is said to have occurred after the two were involved in a land row in Kamagak location, Rachuonyo South sub-county.

The reported parcel of land belongs to the deceased mother, since identified as Hellen Ajwang Odiango.

According to reports the retired military man left home years ago with his family and returned for the first time on Friday, and later went at it with his mother.

This led to a confrontation which resulted in a fight where the ex-soldier then allegedly stabbed the 91-year-old with a knife to the chest and the head.

Rachuonyo South sub-county Police Commander Lilies Wachira revealed that the old lady succumbed to the injuries while she was being rushed to Rachuonyo Sub-County Hospital.

Wachira stated that the police suspect the former military man may have fled to Tanzania where he lived during his time in the service.

The Rachuonyo South sub-county commander revealed that the matter has been handed over to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) who will investigate the case.

Hellen's body is being held at Rachuonyo South sub-county hospital mortuary where it will undergo a postmortem.
