  • A check on flight radar indicates that five planes that were bound for Nairobi have been diverted to Mombasa.

Several flights that were scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) today Friday 17th September 2021 have been diverted to Mombasa.

According to Peter Wafula; the Mombasa International Airport Manager, the flights have been diverted due to bad weather being experienced at the JKIA area.

A quick check on flight radar indicates that five planes that were bound for Nairobi have been diverted to Mombasa.

The five include; a local Jambo Jet plane that was on route to Nairobi from Mombasa, 2 Kenya Airways planes from Lagos and Accra and an Egypt Air plane from Dar es Salam, Tanzania.

According to Wafula, if the bad weather persists at JKIA, more planes will be diverted to Mombasa in the course of the day.

The diversion comes a week after a similar incident at Wilson airport in Nairobi, where all planes were diverted to JKIA owing to bad weather.

Wilson Airport majorly serves small and medium-sized aircrafts that operate locally and within the East African region.

The diversion mostly affected choppers, private planes, and small passenger and cargo aircrafts.
