The event is reportedly set to give the Luhya nation a political direction as they usher in an election year.

Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega County, is this Friday, December 31, playing host to Azimio La Magaharibi rally.

Pictures obtained from the ground shows thousands of people walking into the stadium as many others are seen already seated.

The rally, convened by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli is expected to bring together a host of leaders from the Western region and across the country.

The event is reportedly set to give the Luhya nation a political direction as they usher in an election year.

ODM leader Raila Odinga is expected to grace the event. The COTU boss is reportedly set to endorse him for the presidency.

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Masika Wetangula announced that they will give the event a wild berth.

Sources say that the ANC leader will be dethroned as the region's political kingpin. He was crowned in December 2016 as the region's kingpin.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is reportedly expected to be crowned as the new kingpin.

Atwoli on Thursday warned that those who will not attend the event saying they risk being thrown into political oblivion and that they will not be elected back to the office.

He stated that various leaders have been invited including Mudavadi, Wetangula, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and KANU Senator Gideon Moi.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said he will not attend the event as he will be hosting his football tournament at Mumias Complex Stadium, in Kakamega County.

Mudavadi and Wetangula are expected to grace the tournament.
