Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has dismissed reports that he has backed a Nairobi governor aspirant for the seat.
In a post on Facebook, the former governor told his supporters to ignore the reports terming them as fake and propaganda.
The alleged reports he shared indicated that he had endorsed Richard Ngatia for the Nairobi Governor seat.
"It's brought to the notice of all that there are some unscrupulous elements circulating fake news in form of rumours via various social media channels with the sole purpose of misleading the public that I have endorsed one of the Gubernatorial aspirants for Nairobi county in the forthcoming August election. I would like to distance myself from such malicious, rumours mongering and false information," he said.

Sonko, who has been silent on politics lately, also urged his supporters to prepare for his major announcement on his political direction.
He told them to accept money being given to them in exchange for support but in the end, vote wisely for a person who will change the city.
"I urge my supporters to overlook such kind of fake NEWS as you wait for a major announcement that I'll be making soon," he added.
He also shared a message to aspirants warning them that Nairobi elects leaders with track records.
He said the City never accepts imposed leaders since they have the ability to weigh and decide who they will vote for.
Sonko told those who are expecting political endorsement to brace for a major disappointment.
"Also let me advise anyone eyeing the seat to hunt for votes from the voters based on your manifesto, working track record and vision for watu wa kanairo," he stated.
