The Bungoma senate seat fell vacant after Moses Wetangula resigned to vie for the Speaker of the National Assembly seat.


Ford Kenya Candidate David Wafula Wakoli has been declared the winner of the Bungoma Senatorial by-election held on Thursday, December 8. 

Bungoma returning officer Grace Rono announced Wakoli as the winner.

He trounced his closes challengers the UDA candidate Mwambu Mabonga and the Azimio candidate Wafula Wamunyinyi.

Wakoli won the race after garnering 66,032 votes and was followed by UDA's candidate Mabonga who had 45,900 votes.

Wamunyinyi who was the Azimio candidate got 20,519 votes.

The Ford Kenya candidate received the certificate accompanied by party leaders including Kanduyi MP John Makali, Webuye East lawmaker Martin Wanyonyi, Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi, Ambassador Simon Nabukwesi, Bungoma county deputy governor Pastor Jennifer Mbatiany, Bungoma county assembly Majority leader among other Ford Kenya party leaders.

He won the seat after MPs affiliated with the Kenya Kwanza Alliance backed his bid.

Wetangula, a close ally of Wakoli, pitched tents in the county to drum up support for the Ford Kenya candidate.
