Former Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip was on Tuesday night injured in a mugging incident at a Globe Cinema roundabout in Nairobi.

The former Senator was mugged by a group of suspected thugs who left him with injuries in the mouth and head.

Reports indicate that the Senator was rescued by the police who rushed him to Aga Khan Hospital for treatment.

The Senator is reported to have been found bleeding by police officers who were on patrol. He informed them that he had been attacked by a gang that also robbed him.

The senator is said to have fought back in an attempt to resist being robbed leading to the injuries.

During the attack, the Senator is said to have lost an unknown amount of money and electronics including his mobile phone.

The senator also told police that he was trekking alone to a guest house in Ngara when the thugs pounced on him around 9:45 pm.

The former Senator lost the August 9, polls to Joseph Githuku.

He vied on an Independent ticket and was one of the Senators who heavily campaigned for president William Ruto.

The place of his attack is billed as one of the crime hotspot areas in Nairobi.
