“I left Rift Valley frustrated, only the President was picking calls,” he said.

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has claimed that former Interior CS Karanja Kibicho was the weak link in the fight against bandits in the Rift Valley region.

According to Natembeya, the three years he worked as the Rift Valley regional commissioners were frustrating.

The Governor, who spoke to NTV, said Kibicho had numerous times ignored his calls when he wanted to convey an important, message to him.

“I left Rift Valley frustrated, only the President was picking calls,” he said.

The former RC says it is only president Uhuru Kenyatta who could pick up his call.

“It is not the work of the Regional Commissioner to make daily reports about how many people have been killed. PS Kibicho never used to pick up calls. I only spoke to him twice in three years,”  he said.

“Those people never picked up calls. The PS then never answered my calls and all our pleas for resources were never met. Only the former President (Uhuru Kenyatta) used to pick up your calls. The rest never used to pick up calls, and never came there either. You are just on your own, with no fuel, no allowances or food for the police officers," he said.

He said he could plan operations but in the end, it fails to run owing to skewed budgetary allocation.

According to Natembeya, the government allocated Sh900,000 to him to run for three months.

He said the amount could be depleted within three weeks.

He said many of the officers lacked even food to sustain their livelihoods and such, it was difficult to tame the bandits.
