The team of observers will comprise representatives of election management bodies, civil society organisations, independent experts, women, and youths as well as AU organs.

The observers will be tasked with providing an impartial and accurate assessment of the electoral processes including the degree to which the conduct of elections meets regional, continental and international standards.

They will also offer recommendations for the improvement of future elections based on the findings as well as demonstrate AU's solidarity and support towards consolidation of democracy, peace, stability and development in Nigeria.
