The Second in Command on Sunday, February 19 said that those who voted for the government would enjoy the benefits first.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Wednesday, February 22 clarified his government shareholder remarks.

Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho, Nairobi County, Gachagua stated that President William Ruto will work for all Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliations but state appointments would go to the Kenya Kwanza loyalist.

The Deputy President equaled the people who voted for Kenya Kwanza as the majority stakeholders in the current Government.

"This Government is like a company guaranteed by shares. There are those with many shares and those with few shares. Therefore those who voted for us and supported us must enjoy the benefits first," Gachagua said.

His remarks faced a backlash with Azimio politicians stating that every Kenyan pays taxes and should be served equally by the State.

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga earlier slammed Gachagua’s remarks and promised to form another government that would accommodate all Kenyans.

Kila mkenya analipa ushuru. Walemavu ni wa Kenya. Serikali ya Azimio itajali maslahi,” Raila said during IEBC prayers at Jeevanjee gardens in Nairobi.
