Raila Odinga on Wednesday threatened to lead mass protests across the country if President William Ruto does not restore food subsidies to cushion Kenyans from the high cost of living within 14 days.

President William Ruto has responded to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga’s threat of countrywide mass action.

Speaking on Wednesday, February 22 during the launch of the Nairobi River Commission in Korogocho, Nairobi County, President Ruto said he won’t be threatened by the former Prime Minister.

“Nataka kuwaambia wale ndugu zetu watulize boli, na wasituuzie uoga, sisi sio watu wa kuuzia uoga,” Ruto stated.

He added,”Nyinyi mlikua na miaka tano ya mahandshake na mamabo yenu, bei ya unga ikafika shilingi mia mbili na thelathini, saa hii tumeteremsha imefika one hundred and eighty. Watupatie nafasi itakuja one hundred and twenty. Wawache kimbele mbele walikua na nafasi yao wakaharibu."

The Head of State further told the Azimio camp that they would do protests until they get tired but he will not be intimidated.

“Ati wanataka kututisha na maandamano, watafanya hayo maandamano mpaka watachoka.Tunawaambia hatuwezi kukubali,” President Ruto stated.

Raila Odinga earlier gave President William Ruto a 14-day ultimatum to restore food subsidies to cushion Kenyans from the high cost of living.

Speaking at Jeevanjee gardens in Nairobi, Raila said he would lead mass action across the country if the demands are not met.

“If these demands are not met within 14 days, we shall lead Kenyans to mass action across the country to restore sanity,” Raila threatened.
